2012 Tiguan production starts next month

VW has already stopped production on the current Tiguan and is gearing up to start production of the 2012 model. Expect  the new Tiguan to arrive in Q4 2011 with SEL models possibly being  delayed due to the quake in Japan.  The 2012 Tiguan brings and updated look and a more efficient drivetrain now rated at 29 MPG.

VW cancels all rear view cameras due to Japan quake

The unfortunate events in Japan have caused VW phase out the  rear view cameras on most of its cars. VW will not install rear view cameras in the following models: CC Lux Plus, Lux Limited, and VR6, Touareg, and Tiguan SEL w/Premium Nav. VW is working on finding a new supplier and has created alternate configurations for the models mentioned above. The Routan is not affected.

2012 Tiguan gets new face and 29MPG!

VW showed the 2012 US Spec Tiguan at the New York Autoshow this weekend. Among the changes are are new facia, tail lamps, badging, optional Xenon headlamps with  LED DRLs, and a number of minor interior trim updates. The biggest news however, is the updated drive train together with the more slippery bodywork help it archive a 4 MPG increase to an estimated 29 MPG  highway.  Look for the baby Touareg look alike to arrive in dealers around July.

Get a 2011 or wait for a 2012?

Here is a model by model breakdown of my recommendations:

Jetta: No reason to wait for a 2012 unless you want an S model with a sunroof

Golf: Get a 2011 model unless you REALLY want a TDI with the new LED daytime running lamps

Tiguan: Tiguan is getting a facelift so check out the new 2012 model in person before making a decision. However, The 2012 gets 29 MPG!

CC: 2012 is nice but you can score 0% on a 2011!

Routan: 2012 model won’t be out till  late fall and there are awesome incentives on the 2011s right now

Touareg:  Too rich for your blood? wait for 2012 and there is a new less expensive (not by much)  trim level coming

GTI:  wait ONLY if you are shopping for an Autobahn package with the new wheels and LED DRLs

Jetta SportWagen: Get a 2011

EOS: its new and fresh for 2012

LEDs for the people!

Audi made LED DRLs popular and since many have jumped in the bandwagon with weird and tacky looking LEDs. For 2011 VW added LED Daytime Running Lamps to the Touareg and for 2012 6 more cars will get them:

– 2012 EOS

– 2012 Golf TDI

– 2012 GTI

– 2012 Golf R

-2012 Tiguan SEL

-2012 Beetle Turbo

Look for these built in christmas lights to show up in cars around July of this year.
